Ambience

You truly are a master of it.

Yeah

I think I might actually give you a proper review, just to let you know that I am actually not some dumb ass who can just midi rip. But anyway lol...

This is definitely not drum and bass, but I can sort of tell you were going for it. Possibly something techno or experimental/misc? I suppose everyone is better at different things. Like for instance, I know you can create some really good melodies and bass lines. You also have some nice structure and arrangement with your songs in general.

I suppose on the modern sort of effects/repetitive/all that sort of stuff, isn't where your skills really lye. Not to say you can't create some really awesome sounding synths.

For starters this is way to slow for any sort of dnb association, second of all the bass doesn't really sound all that drum and bass like.

You should be able to take away all other instruments except for the drums and the bass and it should still sound awesome. Really, the sound of the bass and the high speed flowing drums is what gives a dnb song a dnb feel, in my opinion any who.

This has a real nice melody to it and some really nice alternating drum patterns and it is a good song but it isn't that catchy and doesn't excite any strong emotions. Take a Paragonx9 song for instance. It does have some strong drum arrangements and usually a kick ass reese bass, but it also has some kick ass video game type melodies. It has building up and climax's and all that sort of stuff.

This song on the other hand, compared with "she" for instance, doesn't have much going for it. Maybe you could have at least sped it up for some sort of climax, or taken away the drums for a while, for some sort of breakdown.

Well I am no master of dnb but I hope I helped you out :D

now go check this out :D

lulz, I know you're not just "some dumbass who can midi rip", I mean, srsly, the Synthesis remix made me lol harder than most anything ever :D

I've listened to your music (ninja listening ftw!) and you're probably better than I am.

But yes, I was going for DnB- it's something I've never done before, I kind of did no research at all, it was effectively "RAWR LET'S DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS".

Sounds like how I write most of my music.

But yes! You have helped me! For I intend to continue writing... um... whatever this is... and possibly getting closer to actual DnB!

That kinda seems to be my main problem- I can't do mainstream, no matter how hard I try to. And goddamn, I do try. :p

(Also please note that the description was only a semi-joke. I really have no idea how this got here.)

Yea

This one was a lot more dull, compared to your Endless Cyan Ocean. Although I really Liked the guitar. You have a real nack for getting a really good sound out of you instruments but your songs are a bit quiet. It was still nice and relaxing to listening to, but not as interesting as much of your other submissions.

Maybe you should have had a key change or a breakdown with the drums. I can see that you tried to build up the songs with the strings and stuff, but It didn't really work all that well.

well I hope that review helped

oh can you check this out lol.

You will like it :D

lol

You should really make a more complex melody, not just 5 notes lol. It is repeditive, short, random. Try using the major scale. Or minor scale. Not the random scale.

fl can show you.

Majorgeneral responds:

thanks for the review

lol

This is very industrial. Ehhhh keep trying and you will eventually make something really good.

Try make a few melodies, a drum beat. No matter if its real simple.

Majorgeneral responds:

Thanks for the review

really repeditive

I didnt mind those voices though, they sort of kept me entertained.

The drums needed a bit of work, they were too random and should have been louder and have some more reverb

that synth gets really annoying

this is more like house/new wave, def not dance.

yo quarl the efects in this song r of the shizang!

I love the effects, they totally kept me entertained.

The melody was a bit repetitive but I didn't get bored.

at 1:30 that breakdown thing was pretty good.

But this song really is not that easy to listen to, or nice to listen to, exciting but deffinately not something I would try and relax to.

This is more like industrial, def not goth.

:D

Well good job :D

can you check this out for me ?

Quarl responds:

lol. I thought of putting the song in the ska section but decided goth would piss off less people... the song's genre is actually dnb. Dnb has had two decades to evolve into what it is today so there's no confusion as towards where I should have put the song. I just put it in goth for teh lols.

As for the repetition, that comes in to play when working an electronic dance song into a DJ set. While most dnb songs come off as 5+ minute bore-fests, when mixed properly into a DJ set a dnb track only plays for about a minute before a new song gets mixed and played. If you think this is boring then consider yourself lucky I didn't add the extra unnecessary second chorus repeat you get in all pro tracks. Note: all professional electronic dance songs follow a few main structures to make them more accessible to the DJ set.

Here... while I'm checking out your song, listen to these two tracks and compare their song structures, then consider how you would effectively mix them into a DJ set.

If you want added lols, compare those two songs structures to Alice DJs "Better Off Alone." Note the structure: introduction, relatively ambient break down, chorus, relatively ambient breakdown, then the chorus again.

nice

Really like that dark piano

Could have some better instruments, other then that distortion sorta thing, that ruined the nice song.

I like the calm/dark aspect to it

:D

Good job :D

Thanks for the review :). I'll check out your stuff later.

Nice kinda wierd effects

Wierd, lol, i see you were playing around with some effects, which is all good, but dont submit it to newgrounds, we have enough crap here lol

make a song using those techniques, creativity and things you learn along the way, make good songs. LD

:D

Well anyway,

nez1536 responds:

Heh, most of the songs I put on NG are 'regular' tracks, just this one is effects-based. But I get it, it might not be suitable for NG as it makes less sense without the rest of the album.

nice

I like that strong middle range thing that you did, nice groove. Drums were a bit lacking though, but they were wierd and groovy

nice song though, very creative and wonderful. You are on the road to happyness because your music is original.

:D
